Golden Valley Math Pilot Looking for Tutors!

Volunteers in Partnership (VIP) places tutors and classroom assistants throughout Robbinsdale Area Schools in grades K-12. Do you live in the Golden Valley area? "We are looking for 6-12 tutors to help us kick off this pilot math program at a Golden Valley elementary school" says VIP coordinator, Jill Kaufman.

Origo Math is a company that provides supplemental math resources. Origo uses a set of resources called "Book of Facts" and "Box of Facts". These books and boxes contain lessons for basic facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). The lessons always include an introduction, reinforcement of skills, practice, and extension to higher numbers. Volunteers will lead small groups of students through these 15 -20 minute lessons. The volunteers will most likely rotate through a few groups during each visit, teaching the same lesson for that day.

If you or someone you know is interested in dusting off their math tutoring skills and jumping aboard to assist our youth, contact Mary Jane Horton, RSVP Literacy Coordinator at mhorton@voamn.org or 952.945.4163 for more information!

RSVP Literacy is now accepting applications for Telefriends volunteers! Answer the call today!

Many children could enjoy having an extra caring adult in their lives
to chat with, develop friendships, and read together. When children
participate in the Telefriends program, a carefully screened and
trained volunteer phones them after school or in the early evening.
The volunteer will listen to the child read aloud from a book we will mail
to him/her, offering support and encouragement. The book is the
child’s to keep. Telefriends is a great way for children to learn from
and relate to an appropriate older adult.

Are you 55+ and looking for a volunteer opportunity?
